In today’s life, women are equally participating with men in every field and they are also contributing in the field of sports. There are several prominent and famous women athletes whose contribution cannot be neglected. Two of them are Janet Guthrie and Toni Stone
Janet Guthrie is the first women to participate in a NASCAR Winston Cup as a racecar driver. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa on March 1938 and graduated as an aerospace engineer. She participated in the NASCAR Winston cup and completed the race in1976. In 1977, she was the first women ever to participate in the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500. In 1980, she was inducted into the Women's Sports Hall of Fame. In the year of 2006, she was also inducted into the Motorsports Hall of fame.
Toni Stone is another well-known sportsperson who made history in sports. She was a well-known baseball player. In 1953, she was the first of three women to play in the Negro League Baseball and played second base for the Indianapolis Clowns. At the age of 10, she started playing baseball because she was very interested in playing baseball professionally. While striving for a career in baseball, her husband and many other people discouraged her from playing baseball. She also participated in many other sports, such as track racing, ice skating and high jump, but baseball was her game. After finishing her career in baseball, she moved to California and became a nurse. Stone was inducted into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. She died in 1996.
